Targeting
You can use the Target Touch Stick as your prompt to make the dog go where you want, instead of baiting with food, or physical pushing and pulling. You can target the dog onto a grooming table, onto agility equipment, over jumps, or walk in the “heel” position on or off a loose lead.
Ready, Steady, Click! by Stephen G. King is an excellent introduction to dog training based on positive reinforcement. The author clearly and concisely describes the science that underlies learning in all species, and applies it well to the training of pet dogs. The twenty Training Tips for Success at the end of the book are great guidelines for all trainers.

What is Clicker Training : Whether you are clicker training your Dog, Puppy or even a Cat this article gives a good introduction to clicker training by one of the UK’s leading animal behaviourist’s simply and concisely.
So what is a clicker?
A clicker is a child’s toy that clicker trainers have decided to use to reinforce or reward an animal’s behaviour. The clicker is a small metal and plastic device that makes a double clicking sound. Above is my new invention the WHIZZCLICK! Which is a combination clicker and whistle?
NO! Get off!
Instead of trying to stop misbehaviours with “NO, NO!” or add any other kind of physical punishment, lets think about what you DO want to see. You want to see him keep four paws on the floor or sitting instead of jumping.
This is an easy behaviour to shape and if you are consistent, the jumping behaviours should change almost immediately. You will be amazed at how fast this works!
1. Start by going out of room where your dog is situated. Take clicker and treats with you, and come back within a couple of minutes.
